Spalding Indoor Bowls Club round-up




Spalding Indoor Bowls Club started the Mixed County League season with a 20-shot win at home against Stamford on Saturday.

Spalding were always in control, mainly thanks to the rink skipped by Dan Mills, with Gill Hayden, Maisie Belding and Ian Stafford who won 32-9.

Spalding won 81-61 and secured 10 of the available match points.

Rink scores: Gill Hayden, Maisie Belding, Ian Stafford and Dan Mills won 32-9; Ann Newbury, Petrine Ault, Mike Taylor and Anthony Cronin won 23-11; Tony Westland, Sue Slayven, Maggie Wheatley and Graham Wright lost 14-19; Carole Nunney, George Deaton, Betty Deaton and David Nunney lost 12-22.

The ladies started their defence of the Trudy Bates League title with a home victory against Boston last Thursday.

Spalding started the stronger of the two teams but, by 15 ends, Boston had gone a single shot in front.

Spalding finished well and won by 14 shots (85-71). They won on two rinks and drew on another which meant that they triumphed 11-3 overall.

Top winning rink was skipped by Maggie Wheatley, with Jean Patterson, Sue Slayven and Trish Stafford who won 32-16.

Spalding opened their campaign in the Men's County League with a home win against Grantham on Sunday.

They were dominant from the outset and won on all rinks which meant that Spalding were victorious 14-0 overall. They also won the aggregate by 62 shots (112-50).

Top winning rink was skipped by Dominic McVittie with Tony Westland, Max Butters and David Nunney who had an impressive 37-12 win.
