Divyeash Vaseeharan scores a century as Spalding Cricket Club beat Market Deeping in the Lincolnshire Premier League
A stunning century from Divyeash Vaseeharan helped steer Spalding to their second victory of the Lincolnshire Premier League campaign on Saturday.
They defeated Market Deeping by 100 runs at Outgang Road with Vaseeharan leading their scoring spree.
He made 124 while Jamie Coles struck a half-century as Spalding overcame a sticky start to post a formidable total.
On a baking hot day where the runs were expected to flow, Spalding had no hesitation in electing to bat first after winning the toss.
However, they crashed to 10-3 as Hayatullah Niazi produced a devastating spell to give Deeping early control.
Niazi bowled Ollie Dring first ball while Jon Manton lasted just two deliveries before his stumps were sent tumbling by the Deeping ace.
Keyan Gace was at the crease for a mere eight balls until he was bowled by Niazi as three of Spalding's top order failed to trouble the scorers.
However, this brought Vaseeharan to the middle to join Barnaby Dring and they steadied the Spalding ship with a superb 133-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Niazi predictably made the breakthrough when he bowled Dring for 42 to finish his 10 overs with 4-45.
However, it failed to stall Spalding's momentum as Coles came out to join Vaseeharan in another solid stand.
They added another 71 runs for the next wicket until Vaseeharan was caught for a superb 124 off 110 balls which included 18 fours and a six.
Harsh Bhandari then picked up the mantle with Coles to take Spalding past the 300-run mark until he fell for 41.
Coles was the eighth wicket to fall after making 55 as Matt Mills led a late Deeping rally to finish with 4-84 as Spalding closed their 50 overs on an excellent 321-9.
Deeping needed a strong start to have any chance of chasing down the target but they began in a similar vein to their visitors.
They fell to 11-3 as Nilantha Atapattu and Bhandari picked up the vital wickets of Connor Gillett, Josh Smith and Saqlain Arshad.
Niazi was again the mainstay of the Deeping innings and he put on a 97-run partnership for the fifth wicket with skipper James Hook.
Barnaby Dring made the crucial breakthrough, courtesy of a catch by brother Ollie, as Niazi fell for 85 after plundering 13 fours and three sixes.
Hook went on to make his half-century before he edged a delivery from Ollie Dring to wicket-keeper Manton which all but ended Deeping's hopes of victory.
Gace claimed a couple of late wickets to finish with 2-27 while Bhandari bagged 2-24 and Atapattu took 3-27 as Deeping were dismissed for 221.
The victory increased Spalding's advantage over the bottom two teams in the division, Grimsby and Long Sutton, who were both defeated on Saturday.
Sutton lost heavily by 225 runs at second-placed Woodhall Spa after seeing their early dominance wrestled away from them.
They had their hosts reeling on 59-5 with Uddyan Hansana leading the Sutton attack to eventually finish with 4-70.
However, Spa struck back with a series of strong partnerships to eventually close out their 50 overs on 301-9 as Matt Carter cracked 86 after Ollie Caswell had contributed 75.
Sutton struggled in their reply and were bowled out for 76 with only Davico Kruger (23) and Calvin Bird (19) making double figures as Sri Lankan ace Prasanna Jaywardene took 5-30 for the victorious hosts.
An unbeaten century from Jonny Cheer helped Bourne successfully chase down their target against Nettleham at the Abbey Lawn.
Their Lincoln visitors had made 251-6 after being put into bat with Sam Evison the pick of the Bourne attack with 3-22 from 10 overs.
Opener Jordan Temple set Bourne on their way with 41 and enjoyed an 80-run stand for the second wicket with Cheer.
And, despite losing the wickets of Tom Dixon and Evison, Cheer then joined forces with Dan Freeman to guide Bourne home.
They had an unbroken 108-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Cheer finishing 112 not out and Freeman unbeaten on 56.
Bourne face a derby duel at Spalding this coming weekend while Deeping travel to league leaders Lindum with Long Sutton hosting Bracebridge.
