Lincolnshire Premier League cricket round-up

Spalding completed a hat-trick of derby day victories by beating Bourne in the Lincolnshire Premier League on Saturday.

After beating Market Deeping last week and accounting for Long Sutton earlier in the campaign, Spalding were five-wicket winners over their south Lincolnshire neighbours at Seas End Hall.

They had put visiting Bourne into bat after winning the toss and Harsh Bhandari made an early breakthrough by bowling Jordan Temple for four.

Bhandari then bagged the wicket of fellow opener Courtney Kruger for 12 to leave Bourne struggling on 35-2.

Jonny Cheer and Sam Evison looked to be steadying the ship until they both fell in quick succession.

Evison was caught on 17 by Ethan Lawrence off the bowling of Barnaby Dring while last week's centurion Cheer was dismissed for 20 by Nilantha Atapattu as Bourne crashed to 64-4.

Dan Freeman and Rob Dunn looked to be rebuilding the innings again until the latter fell for 22 after being bowled by Keyan Gace.

Jack Berry joined Freeman and they put on 59 runs for the sixth wicket until Dring made a vital breakthrough when he had Freeman caught by Lawrence for 43.

Ollie Dring then got in on the wicket-taking act when he dismissed both Rob Bentley and Ruben Baker while Berry was caught by Bhandari off the bowling of Brandon Andrews for 37 with Bourne on 187-9.

A defiant last wicket stand from Corey Young (11) and Colin Cheer (18no) then helped Bourne reach 226 before the former was caught and bowled by Gace.

The majority of the Spalding attack all took wickets with Bhandari, Gace and the Dring brothers both taking a brace each.

Bourne enjoyed some early success in the Spalding reply as Bentley and Freeman claimed the wickets of Barnaby Dring and Yuvi Ranaut to leave the hosts on 38-2.

However, a crucial 87-run stand for the third wicket between opener Ollie Dring and Gace swung the match in Spalding's favour.

Although Ollie Dring was caught behind by wicket-keeper Jonny Cheer off the bowling of Bentley for 69, last week's match-winner Divyeash Vaseeharan maintained the momentum with Gace.

They added a further 67 runs for the fourth wicket until Vaseeharan was stumped by Cheer off the bowling of Evison for 22.

Gace continued to lead the victory charge despite the departure of Jamie Coles for six when he was caught by Rob Bentley off the bowling of Colin Cheer.

Spalding were now within nine runs of victory with plenty of overs to spare and Gace guided them past the winning post in the 36th over.

The South African was 90 not out after smashing 13 fours and a six in his 71-ball innings which helped Spalding to their third league win of the season.

Long Sutton remain rooted to the foot of the table following their promotion last season after a seven-wicket home loss to Bracebridge Heath.

They were bowled out for 103 after winning the toss and electing to bat first as Alex King and Avishka Tharindu both took three wickets for the visitors.

Sutton had found themselves on 38-6 at one stage until a 46-run stand between Peter Cook (23) and Josh Baker (35) who were the only batsmen to reach double figures.

The visitors wasted little time in wrapping up the win in 15 overs as Sri Lankan star Tharindu plundered 11 fours and two sixes in his 63 not out.

Davico Kruger did take 2-24 from his five overs while Dan Oldfield also claimed the other Bracebridge wicket to fall.

Lindum remain in pole position to retain their league title after a nine-wicket home win over Market Deeping on Saturday.

The visitors had made 221-8 from their 50 overs with opener Connor Gillett top-scoring after making 89.

Josh Smith struck 28 in a half-century opening partnership with Gillett while Hayatullah Niazi made 48 for Deeping.

Niazi was then the only Deeping player to make a breakthrough in the Lindum reply as the champions triumphed with nearly 10 overs to spare.

A stunning century from Will Wright led their charge as he smashed 21 boundaries in his 135 not out while Will Taylor totalled 65 in an opening stand of 191 before Niazi took the only home wicket to fall.

Deeping have a derby duel with Long Sutton on Saturday while Bourne host Lindum with Spalding travelling to Grantham.
