Reaction from Spalding United manager Jimmy Dean after their victory over Royston Town
Manager Jimmy Dean feels his in-form Spalding United side are setting the tone for what is to come next after maintaining their impressive run of results.
The Tulips have won their last four games in the Southern League Premier Division Central after bouncing back in style from a heavy loss at Banbury United.
They have netted 15 times while conceding just three and went top of the table on Tuesday night after a convincing 4-0 home over Royston Town.
Goals from Bart Cybulski, Jack Roberts, Yusifu Ceesay and Maniche Sano-Sani capped another free-flowing performance from Dean's charges.
The Tulips manager said: "We've played some great football in the last couple of games and hopefully it sets the tone for what is to come next.
"There is stuff that we've got to be better at but we're only 12 games in and I am going to really endeavour to make sure that we improve at those things because there is a lot of potential with this squad of players.
"It's obvious to see the things that we're good at with the ball and there are a couple of things we need to get right when we're without it and then we'll be even better.
"It's been a great return since losing at Banbury and the boys have shown a lot of courage so we've got to be happy with that.
"We can't get tired of doing the right things because we don't want to go away from the team that we want to be."
The Tulips had to be patient to break the deadlock in midweek as Cybulski scored the opening goal in first half injury-time.
It opened up the contest after the break where Spalding put their visitors to the sword.
Dean added: "There were a couple of little things in the first half where we weren't getting the press or structure right.
"I felt we could be doing things so much better and, although I don't want to be too harsh, it felt we could have taken on the information better.
"Saying that, we still should have two or three goals in the first half and maybe a red card or two for them.
"We made little adjustments for the second half because we wanted to play forwards a little bit more and I think we were very good.
"When we had the ball, we either had control or threat and they are the two things that you need. We had good energy and reactions.
"It became enjoyable watching because Royston do carry a threat but, on the transitions and the counters once these teams start stepping onto us, they are very vulnerable."
Spalding are in FA Trophy action on Saturday when they host Northern Premier League Midlands Division side Corby Town.
Josh McCammon, Curtis Thompson and Matty Bondswell could all be in contention to return to create further competition for places.
Spalding were unchanged in their starting line-up on Tuesday from the weekend win over AFC Sudbury with their replacements off the bench in the second half also contributing.
Dean added: "The substitutes are coming on and impacting and we've just got to keep doing the right things.
"We'll have a roll count before Saturday and see where we're at because it's a game that we want to win."
Spalding's next league game is on Saturday, November 1, with a trip to Alvechurch.
