Teams from Leicester and Aston Villa take part in Pinchbeck United’s Knights Trophy tournament




Nearly 70 teams from across a vast number of counties took part in the annual Knights Trophy over the weekend.

Sides from Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Yorkshire, Bedfordshire and Norfolk attended the popular tournament which was organised by Pinchbeck United and held over two days at their Knight Street ground.

Saturday saw the Under 7s, 9s and 11s in action with different winners at each age group.

Leicester City won the Under 7s section with Doncaster Rovers as runners-up.

Wyberton Colts were the Under 9s winners with Aston Villa finishing a runners-up.

Supreme Football Skills took the honours in the Under 11s category with Aston Villa again as runners-up.

The Under 8s, 10s and 12s then took centre stage on Sunday.

Thorney headed the Under 8s age group with FDS and Aston Villa A sharing the runners-up spot.

Leicester City completed a victory double by winning the Under 10s event with Peterborough DC runners-up.

YDP topped the Under 12s category with the runners-up being DK Performance.

A number of south Lincolnshire side also took part in the event which was sponsored by the Nene and Welland District Lodge of Oddfellows, Morrisons of Pinchbeck and Avec Sport.
