Bourne Cricket Club beat Market Deeping in the Lincolnshire Premier League
A century from Jordan Temple helped Bourne get back to winning ways in the Lincolnshire Premier League on Saturday with a derby victory over Market Deeping at the Abbey Lawn.
Temple top-scored with 103 as Bourne narrowly defeated their neighbours by eight runs to leave Deeping still seeking their first league victory of the season.
After winning their opening two games, Bourne went into the derby duel looking to bounce back after successive defeats.
They were put into bat after Deeping won the toss with openers Jack Berry and Sam Evison getting the home side off to a steady start.
The duo put on 62 runs for the first wicket until Berry edged a delivery from Matt Mills to wicket-keeper Sam Malton to be dismissed for 36.
Evison and Temple added a further 22 runs until the opener was caught by Reece Plowright off the bowling off the bowling of Aashar Mehmood for 29.
Jonny Cheer joined the in-form Temple at the crease and they added a further 45 runs before the former was caught by Mills off a Sam Jarvis delivery for 15.
Temple continued to keep the runs ticking at the other end despite the departures of Dan Freeman and Yuvi Ranaut.
Freeman fell for 10 after being caught by Tom Anderson off the bowling of Josh Smith while Ranaut was bowled by Mustafa Mughal for five.
A 44-run stand between Temple and wicket-keeper Carl Wilson took Bourne past the 200-run mark until the latter was also bowled by Mughal for 23.
Mughal also showed a safe pair of hands to oust Rob Dunn cheaply off the bowling of Jarvis before he bowled Rob Bentley for three.
Mughal then trapped Liam Thompson leg before second ball to finish with 4-52 from 10 overs and leave Bourne on 224-9.
Temple was 11 runs short of his century at this point but joined forces with last man Harry Tickler to pass his milestone.
He had made 103 which featured 12 fours and a six when he was caught by Anderson off Smith in the final over as Bourne were bowled out for 249.
Deeping openers Connor Gillett and Smith matched Bourne's start as they reached 66 before the visiting skipper was caught by Dunn off Thompson for 21.
Thompson then had Jarvis caught and bowled second ball before Aashar Mehmood joined Smith to steady the Deeping chase.
A half-century stand for the third wicket was eventually broken by Berry who had Smith caught by Ranaut for 74 after the opener had smashed nine fours and four sixes.
George Woods joined Mehmood and they continued to chip away at the Bourne target with a 62-run stand for the fourth wicket.
However, Evison bowled Mehmood for 47 and, in the next over, Berry had Freeman caught by Cheer for 27 with Deeping now on 178-5.
Temple turned his arm over to have Mills caught for four by Ranaut with Mughal then coming out to the crease to join Malton.
They put on 46 runs for the seventh wicket before Freeman struck twice in quick succession to put the game back in Bourne's favour.
He had Mughal caught by Temple for 27 while Malton edged a delivery to Wilson for 23 with Deeping still nine runs short of their target.
Anderson and Plowright were unable to get them over the line as they ran out of overs as Deeping were defeated by eight runs.
Despite the reversal, the 10-point haul moved Deeping out of the bottom two as they leapfrogged Spalding who lost by 90 runs at home to reigning champions Scunthorpe.
The visitors made 266-7 after being put into bat with Karanjit Bansal blasting 16 fours and six sixes in his 132 off just 106 deliveries.
Nilantha Atapattu was the pick of the Spalding bowling attack with an economical 3-20 from his 10 overs.
Spalding slumped to 67-5 in their reply before their lower order rallied with Harsh Bhandari their top scorer after making 26.
Walter Kinlock followed up his two wickets with 19 runs before the final pairing of Atapattu and Matthew Key offered stubborn resistance.
They put on 41 runs for the final wicket before Key was caught by Savraj Nijar off the bowling of Henry Wilson for 25 with Atapattu unbeaten on 15.
Scunthorpe now remain one of just two sides in the division with a 100 percent winning record after five games alongside Bracebridge Heath.
