Holbeach United’s Alan Wright is presented with a Valued Service accolade by the Lincolnshire Football Association

Holbeach United legend Alan 'Lefty' Wright marked a birthday milestone by receiving an award from the county football association.

'Lefty' celebrated his 60th birthday last week and was presented on Saturday night at his party at the Tigers Sports and Social Club with a Valued Service accolade by the Lincolnshire FA.

He has been involved with the Carter's Park club for more than 50 years and the award was presented by George Richardson who is the county's area delegate for South Holland and South Kesteven East.

He said: "It gave me great pleasure to present 'Lefty' with his award because not many people receive them.

"I have known 'Lefty' a number of years through both cricket and football and it was an honour to award him with his trophy which was well deserved."

'Lefty' first became involved with the Tigers as an eight-year-old and went on to become chairman of Holbeach Youths.

He had a spell as manager of the reserves before joining the committee where he has continued to work diligently behind the scenes at the Thurlow Nunn League club.

'Lefty' has also been involved with the Holbeach and District Darts League since 1990 and has a strong association with Holbeach, Spalding and Long Sutton cricket clubs.
