Holbeach United Under 12s Yellows have been crowned Peterborough and District Junior Alliance League Under 12 Division Five champions
Holbeach United Under 12s Yellows are celebrating a title triumph.
The Tigers have been crowned Peterborough and District Junior Alliance League Under 12 Division Five champions after a super season.
The team finished with 44 points from their 14 league games and netted 100 goals on their way to success.
They celebrated their championship win by being victorious in the Tennyson Tyres Cup after they had beaten the Holbeach Under 12 Blacks team in a fantastic game of football at Carter's Park.
Rob Bell, a representative from the League, along with Jordan Oldham - who plays for the current Holbeach United first team - were in attendance and awarded the Yellows with their trophy and medals after the game between both Holbeach sides had finished.
Coach Matt Davies was full of praise for the performance of his players during the campaign.
He said: "I am so incredibly proud of every player that stepped foot on the pitch during the season.
"As soon as they put that kit on, it was always 110 percent effort and attitude."
The league campaign had started back in September with a tough 1-1 draw away against Wittering Harriers.
But, after this game, Holbeach went on an amazing 11-game unbeaten run which included dominant winning scores of 11-2, 8-0 and two 7-0 victories which really cemented their place at the top of the table.
As well as those high scoring dominant games, the team also produced remarkable comebacks, the pick of the bunch was a home tie against Park Farm Pumas Blue.
With just over five minutes left to play, Holbeach were trailing 3-1 but their consistent pressure paid off and they managed to score an incredible five goals in five minutes to win the game 6-3.
After 12 games, Holbeach were top of the table having won 10 and drawn just twice.
They were still yet to be beaten, sparking talk and whispers of trying to go the whole season undefeated which would have been an incredible achievement.
However, in their 13th game of what would turn out to be a remarkable season, they were beaten 2-1 away at Netherton in a very tough and hard-fought game.
Davies added: "For me, in a bizarre way, this was actually maybe a blessing in disguise.
"The team were feeling a lot of pressure before matches to now win every game but that pressure had instantly gone and the boys could just enjoy playing football and concentrate on getting enough points to win the league."
Holbeach maintained their strong position throughout the rest of the campaign but were taken to the wire by title challengers Wittering Harriers and Westwood Hawks.
It left the Tigers needing to win their final league game of the season at home to Deeping United Blues to secure the league title.
After a tentative first 15 minutes of the game, the score was still goalless.
Yellows had multiple opportunities to score but either Deeping's keeper made an amazing save or the ball just went the wrong side of the posts.
It looked like it could have been one of those days until Holbeach capitalised on a defensive error to make the breakthrough.
They netted twice more in three minutes and, by half-time, held a comfortable five-goal cushion.
An incredible second half display saw the Tigers score five more goals to run out 10-1 winners and the title celebrations could begin.
