Holbeach United Under 13 Yellows have won the Peterborough and District Junior Alliance Division Four title

It’s double celebrations for a junior football team which has secured its first league title while remaining unbeaten at home all season.

Holbeach United Under 13 Yellows clinched the Peterborough and District Junior Alliance Division Four title after securing 38 points from 16 games.

Manager Cliff Staff praised his team's performance and said it had been a tough season with more drama than an episode of a soap opera.

The overall result went down to the wire with just a couple of points separating the first three teams with everything dependent on the final match – which took place between the two other teams.

Thanks to that result. the Tigers were victorious and were presented with their winners' medals and trophy during the Holbeach United Community Sports Academy presentation day, having held their own celebrations earlier in the week.

"It's a wonderful achievement for the team and I'm incredibly proud of every single player," said Cliff, who coaches the team with Callum Matthews.

"All the boys really stepped up this season and played some amazing football.

"It's not been easy – all credit to the other teams in the league. We didn’t have the best season last year and I think a lot of people wrote us off.

"This year we ripped up the script and completely re-wrote it. There's been plenty of drama – more than an episode of Eastenders."

The team started well and found itself in pole position after winning its first match but then a string of postponements due to the weather and fixture changes saw it drop back, at one point having eight games in hand on the league leaders.

Staff said the team dug deep and carried on training and showed true grit and determination to work its way back up to the top of the table.

"I’ve always told the boys to believe in themselves and to keep the faith – winning the league was in their hands and they did it," he added.

"It's been a great season – to remain unbeaten at home is a fantastic achievement, with only two losses and two draws.

"But we’re more than just a team – we're like family and we can't wait to take them forward to Division Three."
