Spalding United face Bishop’s Stortford in the Southern League Premier Division Central

Manager Jimmy Dean wants his Spalding United side to make amends for their last Southern League defeat when the in-form Tulips travel to Bishop's Stortford on Saturday.

Spalding make the trip to Hertfordshire for the Premier Division Central clash on the back of an eight-match unbeaten run.

However, their last reversal came at the hands of the Blues when they went down to a 3-1 home loss in the November meeting at the Sir Halley Stewart ground.

Spalding had gone into that game after an impressive victory at Stratford Town and make the trip on Saturday buoyed by a superb 5-1 away win at Bedford Town on Saturday to end a hectic but productive festive period.

Dean said: "We will get the recovery right and there are a couple of things that we need to brush up on with and without the ball.

"We thought we had completed it the last time we played Bishop's Stortford after beating Stratford.

"They did a real job on us and handed it to us so we kind of owe them one and we're going to try and put that right."

A hat-trick by Stortford striker Jack Roberts proved the difference between the two teams in the first meeting of the season.

The Tulips are set to hand a debut to new goalkeeping recruit Aaron Chapman following the departure of Tony Breeden.

Breeden has asked to leave the Tulips following an offer from a club closer to his home with Dean moving swiftly to bring in Chapman who has Football League experience with both Accrington Stanley and Peterborough United.

The Tulips boss commented: "I've worked with Chappy previously and he's a great goalkeeper.

"He's a great lad who has become available and the reason that we've done it is because Tony has asked to leave and he goes with my complete blessing.

"When I came in, I said to all of the boys that were here that, if they wanted to go, then they had to let me know and I would do my best to facilitate it.

"Tony has got something on his door-step with a view to next season as well with a good club and a good deal.

"I've had my ups and downs with him when I came in but I want to give him my gratitude publicly.

"He's been fantastic and has just got better and better. I wish him all the best from my heart.

"I'm delighted to have Chappy in and we'll try and move forward quickly."

Midfielder Lewis Hilliard - who was part of last season’s title-winning squad - has left the club in search of more game-time.
