Reaction from Spalding United manager Jimmy Dean after their draw with Quorn

Frustrated manager Jimmy Dean was left to rue a series of squandered chances as Spalding United were held to a home draw by Quorn on Tuesday night.

The Tulips created a flurry of good chances, especially in the second half of the Southern League Premier Division Central contest.

But, despite being the top goalscorers in the division, Spalding were unable to add to Alfie Bendle's opening goal and dropped points at home in the league for the first time this season.

Dean said: "I was very disappointed that we didn't win the game.

"It was a mixture of bad decisions, poor finishing and good goalkeeping.

"We knew it was going to be tough because Quorn are a good side who are good at what they do.

"They've got good energy levels and put in a fantastic effort but we ran them hard.

"We've been much the better side over the course of the two halves and I'm not happy about dropping points at home but we will come again."

Bendle had given Spalding the perfect start by giving them the lead inside two minutes before Quorn struck back late in the half.

Zak Goodson fired home a stunning strike to bring the Leicestershire visitors level but Dean was disappointed with how his side allowed the chance to be created.

He added: "I thought the first half was pretty even - it was half of two halves.

"We had a bit more of the ball at the beginning but then they had it the second half of the first half.

"We had the better chances and should have come in in front and it was frustrating that no-one challenged their player when he set the goal up.

"It was a great finish but we can't do that in the middle of the park. I just wanted to see my boys do a job for the team in there."

Dean felt that reflected his side's display at times in the opening period before coming out with all guns blazing after the break.

He commented: "It was simple fixes at half-time because I felt the game was far too expansive.

"I also felt some of the boys didn't work hard enough defensively and they got told that at half-time.

"It was a lot more of a team performance in the second half and I don't know how we didn't win it.

"We are top goalscorers in the division for a reason though and the goals will come. We've got to be pleased with the second half performance apart from the final goal."

Spalding - who remain top of the table two points clear of Harborough who have two games in hand - are back at home on Saturday when they host St Ives.
