Spalding United face Alvechurch in the Southern League Premier Division Central

Manager Jimmy Dean is urging his Spalding United side to 'kick on' as they look to maintain their upturn in form.

The Tulips travel to face Alvechurch on Saturday in the Southern League Premier Division Central looking to continue a decent run of results.

Dean's side have taken seven points from the last four league games after a series of encouraging displays.

He said: "The last four performances have been really good and, over the course of those games, you've seen a side that can certainly compete with most teams in the league.

"It's going the way that I want it to and we're really looking like a side.

"I think that anyone who looks at the performance levels of the football team can see how dominant we were last Saturday.

"I've said it so many times though but we now need to kick on because we're looking so much better."

Spalding moved out of the relegation zone on Saturday after a 2-1 victory over Barwell in the only league match to take place due to Storm Darragh.

The win leaves Spalding two points clear of the danger zone but they are just three shy of the top 10 in a tightly-packed division.

Dean added: "Hopefully we won't drop into it again but it is so tight.

"You win a couple of games and you're mid-table but, if you lose a couple, then you're back into it. We went into the relegation zone a fortnight ago without even playing.

"We need calm heads though and need to look at the results and performance levels.

"I don't think we need to worry about relegation too much yet. If we're getting into February and we're in there then granted."

The Tulips have already tackled Alvechurch once this season with the Worcestershire side winning 2-1 at the Sir Halley Stewart in an FA Trophy tie in October.

Former Spalding striker Dan Sweeney is now with Alvechurch who are managed by England international Tom Flowers who won the Premier League as a player with Blackburn Rovers.

The club operates a hybrid training programme which mirrors a full-time scheme with Dean predicting a tricky test for his side who will be buoyed by their win at the weekend.

He commented: "You saw 11 players last Saturday that wanted to play for the football club and it was my most favourite performance since I've been here.

"We know that it will be a tough game against a resurgent Alvechurch side. It will be a really difficult challenge against a good outfit but we're ready now."

Both Pinchbeck and Holbeach have home matches on Saturday.

The Knights entertain Stanway Pegasus in the Thurlow Nunn League Division One North while Holbeach welcome FC Peterborough to Carter's Park.
