Spalding United beat Biggleswade Town in the Southern League Premier Division Central
Spalding recorded their first Southern League win since the opening day of the season with a vital victory over Biggleswade Town on Saturday.
Goals from Tyler Winters, Lewis Hilliard and Glenn Walker secured a 3-2 home win in the Premier Division Central clash at the Sir Halley Stewart ground.
It ended a run of six successive league losses and brought manager Jimmy Dean his first three points as Tulips boss.
Dean described the win as 'massive' as Spalding moved up a place in the table and are now just three points adrift of safety.
The Tulips manager said: "It didn't matter how we got them but we needed those three points and they were massive.
"We have lots of good moments in games but we just need to have a bit more know-how because we're creating problems when we don't need to.
"We do need to focus on the positives though because there were lots again.
"It was a fantastic crowd who kept us going at 2-2 and I thought on the final third chances that we probably deserved to win the game."
The Tulips handed a first start to new signing Connor Brown who has joined the club from Ilkeston Town.
The 32-year-old has previously played for Sheffield United, Oldham Athletic, York City, Barrow and Buxton and produced a man-of-the-match performance on his Spalding debut.
The Tulips went into the game after two impressive FA Cup performances against Alfreton Town which was on the back of a superb defensive display.
However, they fell behind after just 10 minutes as Cyrus Babaie- Gumbs headed home at the back post after goalkeeper Tony Breeden had saved the initial effort from Liam Andrews.
The visitors went close to doubling their lead as Obidinma Onyeagwara teed up Ed Panter whose low shot struck the shot.
Spalding started to shrug off their slow start and Jordan Nicholson flashed a shot past the far post while Sam Cartwright went close with a header after Nathan Stainfield had won the first aerial duel following a corner.
Stainfield saw another towering header blocked before Brown won a penalty on the stroke of half-time while trying to latch onto Lewis Hilliard's through ball.
Tyler Winters stepped up to score from the penalty spot to send the teams in level at half-time.
Spalding then took just a minute of the second period to hit the front as Hilliard's near post corner was missed and went directly into the Biggleswade net.
Nicholson just failed to convert a Jonny Ngandu cross as Spalding searched for a third goal with Stainfield heading over from another Hilliard set piece.
Biggleswade then got on level terms again in the 64th minute as Panter's low cross was turned home at the back post by Babaie- Gumbs.
Spalding though took just eight minutes to regain the lead as another Hilliard set piece wasn't dealt with by the Biggleswade rearguard and Walker headed home from close range with Ryan Doherty's touch taking it beyond goalkeeper Max Woodford.
The Tulips looked to add to their tally with Joe Nyahwema getting a couple of shots away while Panter headed straight at Breeden when well placed at the other end as Spalding saw out the game to move above their defeated visitors in the league table.
