Bourne Town sign former Peterborough United youngster Will Lakin
Bourne Town have secured the services of goalkeeper Will Lakin ahead of their new Northern Premier League campaign.
The former Peterborough United youngster replaces Dan Swan as their new number one following his decision to not make the step up due to the increased commitments of the higher level.
Lakin - whose dad, Martyn, used to manage the Wakes - started last season with Southern League neighbours Stamford before joining Wisbech Town in the United Counties League.
He saved a penalty for the Fenmen in their match against the Wakes to inflict one of the few defeats of the campaign on the promotion-winning Bourne side.
Lakin has also played for Kettering Town and Dulwich Hamlet and made a string of fine saves in Bourne's opening pre-season friendly on Saturday.
The Wakes went down to a 7-0 home reversal in front of a crowd of more than 630 against National League South side Dorking Wanderers who play two levels above Bourne in the non-league pyramid.
The kick-off had been moved back 30 minutes due to the delayed arrival of their Surrey visitors who share the same sponsors - JJ Mac - as Bourne.
Alfie Rutherford rifled an early effort over the home crossbar before Bourne twice went close with headed chances for James Hill-Seekings and new signing Connor Peters.
Two quick-fire goals then gave Wanderers the initiative they never looked like relinquishing despite the best efforts of new boy Lakin.
He made an excellent save from Jimmy Muitt's initial effort before James McShane turned home the rebound.
New Dorking signing Frank Vincent then rifled home an unstoppable second goal into the top corner of the home net.
Charlie Carter came close to adding a third with a fine strike that rattled the crossbar before Lakin again excelled to keep out a Rutherford header.
Zac Allen looped a header over the Dorking crossbar before Vincent turned in another rebound for Wanderers' third after Carter had been thwarted by a superb save from Lakin.
Josh Taylor's sweet strike made it four for the visitors before Rutherford tapped home the fifth from close range after Muitt had prodded his shot past Lakin.
It completed the first half scoring with both sides making wholesale changes for the second period.
Youngster Josh Hebert netted his first senior goal from close range to increase Dorking's advantage to six after the break.
A fantastic fingertip save from Lakin then kept out an effort from Niall McManus before a visiting trialist wrapped up the scoring for Wanderers.
Lakin then prevented the visitors from adding further goals to their tally with two more smart saves in quick succession.
Bourne continue their pre-season programme on Saturday when they host Spalding United at the JJ Mac Stadium (3pm).
Pinchbeck United were 2-1 home winners over Deeping Rangers in their pre-season friendly at Knight Street on Saturday.
A penalty from Logan Tate was followed by a goal from a Knights' trialist as Pinchbeck came back from conceding an opener to Deeping's Oleksandr Muzychuk.
The Clarets host National League North neighbours Peterborough Sports in their next pre-season friendly on Tuesday night (7.45pm).
Pinchbeck play again on Saturday when they entertain Boston Town at Knight Street (3pm).
