Scott Williams is preparing for the Paddy Power World Darts Championships

Scott Williams insists he doesn't want to be known as the Michael Buble of darts after hitting form again ahead of the festive period.

Williams reached the semi-finals of the Paddy Power World Championships last year after a memorable run that ended in defeat to Luke Humphries.

He has been unable to recapture that fantastic form during this year but reached the quarter-finals of the prestigious Players Championship over the weekend.

The Swineshead oche ace beat Gian van Veen in a last-leg thriller before producing comeback victories over 2012 runner-up Kim Huybrechts and Sweden's Jeffrey de Graaf.

He bowed out in the last eight to Ross Smith in what was his second televised ranking quarter-final and now wants to bring more consistency to his game after being compared to pop star Buble who is famed for his Christmas hits.

Speaking to Online Darts, Williams - who plays for the Green Dragon in the Pinchbeck and District League - said: "Someone on social media called me the Michael Buble of darts which I really appreciated.

"I get it but I don't want to be the Michael Buble of darts - I want to be the Meatloaf.

"I want to be there all year round. I want to be the guy that people look at and really appreciate what he's done in his career."

Williams was supported by a strong following from south Lincolnshire in the annual tournament at Butlins in Minehead.

He added: "I love playing in front of a crowd on the stage.

"I had some friends here from my hometown which is five and a half hours from here.

"The fact they are here is great to have people in the crowd that are rooting for you. I just love being on the stage and I was happy to be playing good enough to win games."

Williams' next major tournament will be the Paddy Power World Darts Championship that gets underway at the Alexandra Palace in London on December 15.

He faces German prospect Niko Springer in the first round with the winner meeting 2018 world champion Rob Cross who is a close friend of Williams.
