Auditions at Tolethorpe Hall
Are you a fan of Shakespeare? Ever fancied treading the boards? Or would you like to help put on an amazing production? Then the Stamford Shakespeare Company wants to hear from you!
For the 2019 season at Tolethorpe Hall, the Shakespare productions are Julius Caesar and Twelfth Night, as well as Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit.
Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare: Next year’s production of Julius Caesar provides a great opportunity for newcomers to both acting and the works of the world’s greatest dramatist. As well as the famous roles of Brutus, Cassius, Mark Antony, Caesar and the conspiracy of Senators, the play demands a vibrant and proactive ‘crowd ‘ composed of both sexes, all ages, shapes and sizes. Most will double as servants, soldiers, soothsayers, etc. All you need is enthusiasm, commitment and a loud voice when necessary.
Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare: Shakespeare’s finest comedy is a merry tale of unrequited love, shipwrecked twins, mistaken identity and drunken revels and contains some of his greatest comic characters. The hilarious antics of the roguish Sir Toby Belch, the foolish Sir Andrew Aguecheek and the sanctimonious Malvolio delight audiences young and old. Discover the joy of teamwork and the huge satisfaction from creating an evening of rich entertainment, by getting involved, on stage or behind the scenes, with this production.
Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward: Noel Coward’s classic comedy Blithe Spirit, with its witty dialogue and absurd theatricality, is set in the early 1940s and offers seven wonderful parts for actors. We are looking for a cast who can portray the upper-class smugness of the English elite, the eccentricity of a medium conducting a séance and the nervousness of the new maid. We also have opportunities for crew who wish to work backstage or on the technical side of this wonderful supernatural comedy.
Auditions are taking place on Saturday and Sunday, October 13 and 14; and Saturday and Sunday, October 20 and 21.
The opportunity to be part of a production at Tolethorpe Hall is a real privilege. As an actor you have the joy of a four-week run of performances which, though demanding, has many rewards: performing on stunning purpose-built sets, wearing beautiful custom-made costumes, standing on a stage like no other, in front of 600 people a night. What more could any aspiring actor wish for? Previous acting experience is helpful, but not essential. Enthusiasm and dedication are the main attributes required.
