Bluebird Care is outstanding

Staff at Bluebird Care Peterborough and Rutland are celebrating after being rated ‘outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission, a rating that only one per cent of home care providers achieve.

The CQC rating was awarded following a comprehensive inspection in February 2018 and is a significant achievement, making Bluebird Care Peterborough and Rutland one of the best home care providers in the region.

Bluebird Care Peterborough and Rutland, which is based in Wharf Road, Stamford, delivers flexible care and support services to older adults, including those with dementia, and younger disabled adults in their own homes.

Working alongside families and individuals, their bespoke services ensure customers stay in control of their own care for as long as they are able to, supporting customers throughout Stamford, Rutland, Peterborough and Oundle.

The CQC’s report highlighted that staff members “had the skills and knowledge required to provide safe, effective, person-centred care” and “understood each person’s individual needs.”

This was thanks to an effective leadership team of directors and a manager who value opportunities for staff training and personal development. An outstanding rating was given for providing ‘well-led’ care.

Inspectors also praised the “kindness and compassion” showed by staff, ensuring another rating of ‘outstanding’ for providing a ‘caring’ service. The report highlighted examples of the provider’s determination to go “far beyond formal requirements” to achieve this, including celebrating birthdays, marking Alzheimer’s Day with a delivery of cupcakes and even walking two miles in the snow to carry out home visits.

CQC recognised that, “Without exception, the people we spoke with told us that the staff who worked for the service were caring and kind.”

The report also highlighted the “strong culture of innovation within the service.” Bluebird Care Peterborough and Rutland had made comprehensive efforts to introduce successful initiatives since their last inspection, including an innovative new electronic care planning and call monitoring system and the development of individual care plans. These enhanced the “person-centred nature of the
service.”

Leisa MacKenzie and Tim Carey, directors of Bluebird Care Peterborough and Rutland, said: “Every single one of our team members is committed to putting our customers at the heart of what we do. We are delighted that CQC has recognised this and we are particularly pleased to have received ‘Outstanding’ ratings in two of the inspection’s categories: well-led service and caring service.

“We will continue to strive every day to ensure we provide the very best possible care and look forward to building many more relationships our customers can trust.”
