Stamford dry cleaning company Peters' Cleaners' comes to the rescue as the owner decides to remain open during the coronavirus outbreak
A dry cleaning company came to the rescue of an elderly man whose washing machine has broken.
The owner of Peters' Cleaners has decided to remain open with reduced hours for as long as possible.
Vicky Whiter said it was a tough decision because of the costs involved in keeping the factory running, but the client who called on Wednesday made it worth her while.
She said: "An elderly man rang up on Wednesday. His wife his has cancer and he said their washing machine had broken.
"There is no launderette in town so this was the only place he could come..
"He was incredibly grateful that we were open."
The company, which was crowned best independent retailer at the Mercury Business Awards for the last two years, is running on a skeleton staff at its shop in Stamford and the Peterborough-based factory.
The shop in St Paul's Street will open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am until 1pm.
