To celebrate National Grandparents Day on October 6 2019, Age UK Leicestershire and Rutland are launching Naan for a Nan and Poppadum for a Pop campaigns
With National Grandparents Day now less than a month away, Age UK Leicester Shire and Rutland is urging businesses to support its new campaign.
Now in it’s 29th year, National Grandparents Day is on October 6.
To help celebrate the very valuable contributions of older people within the local community Age UK Leicester Shire and Rutland, in partnership with the Leicester Curry Awards, is launching the ‘Naan for a Nan’ and Poppadum for a Pop” campaign.
Local businesses are being asked to support the campaign, which runs between October 1 and 7 by:
l Making a voluntary donation of £100
l Offer a voucher for a free meal for older local people
l Offer a percentage of naan and poppadum takings for the week.
Grandparents are at the heart of many of our families, but despite the vital role they play, older people continually face some of the hardest challenges in our society.
Many older people are currently left to struggle without their basic care needs being met, which makes day-to-day life a continual battle.
Peter Ralphs said: “At Age UK Leicester Shire and Rutland we believe that older people should be empowered to live active and fulfilling lives, as independently as possible.
“We work on a local level to combat the challenges faced by older people, providing an array of services that reflect the needs of our diverse communities throughout the county.
“An ageing society is a cause for celebration, but it also brings with it an increased demand for local services and funds at a time when we are experiencing severe funding cuts.
“More and more, local charities are looking for alternative ways to improve the lives of vulnerable older people and we are proud to be able to provide several services for older people to help end loneliness and isolation, as well as creative activities at our resource centres that can help improve wellbeing.
“We are deliberately reaching out to local businesses as all the money raised through the campaign will directly fund local services and benefit the most vulnerable older people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
“We are also proud to announce that Leicester Curry Awards are supporting our charity for the 2020 Awards and this will be highlighted when we launch our media campaign in the run up to October.
“All participating organisations will given increased positive exposure through our social media platforms, reaching an additional 3,000 people.
Romail Gulzar, founder of The Leicester Curry Awards said: “I’m really happy to be supporting this campaign, especially as Age UK Leicester Shire and Rutland will be one of our nominated charity partners for the 2020 Leicester Curry Awards.”
Tony Donovan, executive director of Age UK Leicester Shire and Rutland said “ We feel honoured that Leicester Curry Awards are supporting us to raise awareness about the issues that local older people are facing.
“Working together at a local level, we are helping to make their lives more enjoyable and fulfilling.”
