The Rutland Choral Society held it's annual Christmas concert on Saturday titled “In Dulci Jubilo”.

The event, which took place All Saints’ Parish Church, Oakham, is staged every year to raise money for charity.

The society's chosen charity this year is Emics, the East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme.

"We raised a super amount of £366," said choral society committee member and trustee Claire Symington.

"The concert went really well and we had a fantastic turnout with about 130 people in attendance.

"We are really happy with that figure, especially at this time of the year when there is so much on the go.

"It was the most wonderful atmosphere and everyone had a great time."

The concert included works by John Rutter, Harold Darke and Elizabeth Poston.

The ticket price of £10 included mulled wine and refreshments after the concert.

"The audience joined in and sang four carols while the choir did various pieces along with duets and solos," said Claire.

"There were also some amusing pieces, a male chorus and readings.

"We had a fantastic audience who were so appreciative of all our work.

"The atmosphere in the church was very happy and and cheerful and festive – we all felt Christmas had really started – and the delicious mulled wine and refreshments served to the audience during the interval certainly added a warm Christmas glow."

EMICS is a network of volunteer doctors with specialist training in pre-hospital emergency medicine which covers the whole of the East Midlands.

The organisation's volunteer doctors turn out at all hours, in all weather, 365 days a year, and respond to an average of four life-threatening emergencies a day.
