Letters of the week: Rutland Sinfonia concert at Oakham School Chapel was 'amazing'
This was our very first time coming to see the Rutland Sinfonia being held in the Oakham School Chapel which was a beautiful setting to experience the Stage and Screen Favourites.
Me and my husband were thoroughly amazed and impressed and we enjoyed every second. Some of the songs were so breathtaking they gave me goosebumps.
Music from West Side Story and The Lord of the Rings were so magical. Great musicianship throughout. I loved trying to guess what song was coming up next from the first few chords.
I absolutely loved The John Williams finale and not being able to pick a favourite as they are all classics - Star Wars, Jaws, Superman, Harry Potter Indiana Jones and ET. We are now planning to attend the next performance in May entitled Postcards from America.

On Saturday, March 11, I went to my first-ever concert. It was given by the amazing Rutland Sinfonia in Oakham School Chapel and was called ‘Stage and Screen Favourites’. It was SO good that I can hardly find words to describe it! I liked all the pieces that the orchestra played but I particularly enjoyed ‘The Fellowship of the Ring Suite’ (because I like hobbits!) and also ‘Memory’ from ‘Cats’. I recognised that tune but I didn’t know what it was called before.
My Granny is one of the flautists in Rutland Sinfonia and three generations of my family (my Grandad, my Dad and me) went to the concert. There was something for everyone in the programme.
I am learning to play the trumpet, so I was very interested in the fabulous brass section. Wow! The woodwind players were also fabulous, not just Granny! During the interval the friendly cor anglais player showed me her instrument and told me all about it because I had never seen one before.
All the children in the audience were given a wordsearch and a pencil when they arrived and when we returned our pencils at the end of the evening we were given a Rocky chocolate bar each. What a brilliant end to a brilliant concert! I think I’ll go again!

An evening of Screen and Stage music, performed by Rutland Sinfonia Orchestra. What an amazing evening at Oakham School Chapel, enjoying music ranging from romeo and Julie to Harry Potter. The range of diverse music was enthused through the audience.
A beautiful compilation of the Greatest Showman was spectacular, the emotions not only heard but felt throughout the intensity of the orchestra.
A thoroughly enjoyable evening had by all.
A special thank you to the Rutland Sinfonia but also to David Calow Who Conducted and the guest violinist, Katherine Collison.
