Councillor gives grant to civic society
A group set up to promote the history and heritage of Bourne has been backed by South Kesteven district councillor Duncan Ashwell.
Coun Ashwell (Con), the member for Bourne Austerby, has given £333 from his Ward Member Grant Fund to the town’s Civic Society.
It will go towards an exhibition marking the centenary of the end of the First World War to be staged in November at Bourne Heritage Centre in Baldocks Mill.
The exhibition will help people learn about Bourne’s involvement in the war.
Coun Ashwell who, along with his wife, is a member of the Civic Society, said: “We want to encourage more people to be involved in the town’s history and character and it seemed appropriate for the money to be used specifically for the World War One commemoration.”
Civic Society chairman Brenda Jones said: “We are totally independent so this sort of donation means a lot to us.
"We rely on donations and fundraising.”
