Early gift for Second Helpings in Stamford

Second Helpings have received an early Christmas present that will take make preparing food much easier.

The community cafe based at Stamford Methodist Church in Barn Hill, is celebrating thanks to the Stamford branch of Waitrose, which has donated a state of the art Magimix food processor.

John Evans, deputy branch manager of Waitrose Stamford, said: “We’re delighted to give Second Helpings a helping hand.

“It will make life a whole lot easier in the kitchen.”

With Second Helpings getting busier each Saturday lunchtime it is open with over 100 people now being served, creating quality three course lunches from surplus food and ingredients, will become much easier.

MasterChef participant and Second Helpings volunteer guest chef, Simon Spooner, said: “This is a fantastic donation from Waitrose, who once they knew of the challenges faces, were so helpful and keen to give something back to the local community.

“The food processor will be a huge help and I look forward to working with Second Helpings again soon.”

Part of the national Real Junk Food project, Second Helpings Intercepts food destined for the bin, collecting from retailers and local food producers, including fruit, vegetables and bread with short sell-by dates.

The aim is to feed people whilst prevent landfill and unnecessary waste.

Anyone is welcome to come to the Methodist Church on a Saturday lunchtime.
