An author’s experiences of growing up in Bourne have inspired his first novel.

Ian Galloway received five-star reviews for The Drowners, which is described as an account of how lives are twisted and destroyed by the desire for revenge.

The thriller has lots of dark twists and Ian promises no-one will guess the ending.

He said: “Some people have found the book shocking, but everyone so far has said it was fantastic.

“It was always my ambition to be a writer but I worked in London as an accounts manage and was earning decent money so didn’t have the chance to follow my dream.”

Ian moved to Singapore four years ago when his wife Wendy was offered a new job, and he took the chance to change career.

He has worked as a ghost writer but The Drowners is his first book written under his own name.

The 46-year-old said: “The book is inspired by growing up in Bourne.

"Eighty per cent of the book happened to me or someone I know. I’ve had a lovely life but the book does focus on the negatives!”

Ian was a pupil at Bourne Westfield Primary School and Bourne Grammar School.

His parents Jean and Roland still live in the town and his inspiration to write comes from two of his former teachers.

He said: “Miss Walker was one of my first teachers. She knew I loved to write and she was always bringing in books from home to inspire me.

“Mr Shepherd was also a brilliant teacher and he massively inspired me.”
