Farmhouse garden will be brought to life at Sacrewell Farm

Matthew Wilson, garden designer, writer, radio and television broadcaster visited Sacrewell to unveil his plans for the farmhouse garden, which will be brought to life by Sacrewell volunteers.

Matthew discussed his plans for the farmhouse garden with Sacrewell members of staff outlining his visions to transform the area and enhance the ecology surrounding it. The work will be carried out by Sacrewell volunteers, who dedicate their free time to the upkeep of the much-loved local institution.

Debbie Queen, general manager at Sacrewell, said: “We are delighted with the plans Matthew has created and we’re really looking to watching them develop! As a charity, we rely heavily on the work of volunteers and this is an exciting opportunity for everyone involved.

“We’re incredibly grateful to our wonderful team of dedicated volunteers and there’s always space for more to join us! Our volunteers get a hands-on experience across all aspects of the farm from fixing fences to clearing out pens and caring for our new animal arrivals; as well, of course, as the work that will go into turning Matthew’s plans into reality.

“If you’ve got a few hours to spare, please do get in contact and we’d be happy to welcome you to the team.”

Sacrewell is run by William Scott Abbott Trust, a local charity dedicated to connecting people of all ages and backgrounds to the great outdoors, and particularly agriculture.

Sacrewell believes there is no limit on education, and particularly keeping rural skills alive, and the new farmhouse garden plans provide a unique opportunity for volunteers to enhance their gardening skills.

Matthew added: “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to design the farmhouse garden at Sacrewell; the farm is in such a beautiful setting and it has been a pleasure to design a planting scheme that will enhance it still further.

“I’m sure the garden will be enjoyed by many visitors once it has been completed and I look forward to working with Sacrewell and its volunteers to complete this vision.”

Sacrewell’s volunteering opportunities range from individual volunteering, to group and corporate days. For more information e-mail office@sacrewell.org.uk or visit reception.
