The crew, from Stanground, extinguished the blaze and stayed in Stibbington throughout the day to ensure there was no further fire spread.

Anthony Martyn, 81, who lives nearby, says the smell of smoke remained in the air throughout the weekend and this morning (January 22).

He described the smell as ‘putrid’ and said it was making it hard to breathe.

“It’s not like you can open the windows, that just makes it worse,” he added.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue says the cause of the fire was accidental.
