First Rutland Good and New sale is a shopping success
One of the biggest nearly new clothes sales that has raised thousands of pounds for charity is returning - and it got off to a great start on Friday and Saturday with a men’s sale in Oakham.
People packed into the first ‘Good and New Sale’ of the year to browse and buy a range of men’s clothes, shoes and accessories.
This was the first event before the main sale at Barnsdale Lodge takes place on Saturday and Sunday, when women’s and children’s clothes will be available.
The long-standing event has raised thousands of pounds for ‘For Rutland’, an advice service for people with long-term medical conditions.
Elizabeth Mills, co-organiser of the Good and New sales, said: “The men’s sale was very good.
“Friday night was very busy, but because of a combination of the rugby and the sunny weather on Saturday, we didn’t have so many people.
“We’ve got some really good clothes left over so they will go the main sale this weekend. We’ll have women’s, men’s and children’s clothes, shoes and accessories.
“The Good and New sales have been going for over 50 years and it’s just grown and grown over the years.
“It’s the biggest sale of it’s kind in the country and we should see between 200 and 300 visitors on both Friday and Saturday.
“We’ve got a great team of volunteers who have helped us with sewing, stitching and transport. They have been very good to us.”
The Friday event runs from 5pm to 8pm and the Saturday sale from 8.30am to 1pm.
