Warm hub opens at Stamford Free Church in Kesteven Road




Volunteers behind a food waste scheme have opened a warm hub.

George Hetherington launched the service at Stamford Free Church in Kesteven Road on Tuesday.

Using produce from George's Food Hub, based at St Augustine's School, they served soup to 48 visitors.

The aim is to provide a warm space for people struggling with heating bills.

George said: "I'm excited by this expansion of the work at George's Food Hub. We are serving the community and saving surplus food."

The hub receives donations from Nisa, Today's Local, The Cornish Bakery, Askers Bakery and Riverford Organic.

Its warm space will open on Tuesdays from 12.30pm.

Warm hubs are also available at Ryhall Library on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am-6pm, Uppingham Methodist Church from 10am to midday on Mondays and Wednesdays, and Ketton Library on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am-4pm.

People in Bourne can visit the Salvation Army on Mondays and Fridays, the Baptist Church on Tuesdays, and The Butterfield Centre on Wednesdays between 10am and 6pm.
