Men charged after police officers injured




Police officers were injured and two of their cars damaged as they attempted to stop suspects.

The incident happened after a car identified as having been stolen from outside a property in Stamford was spotted by officers in Cambridgeshire.

They tried to stop the black, E-Class Mercedes in Murrow, near Wisbech, but two police cars ended up damaged. The officers’ injuries were minor.

Three men were arrested, charged and remanded into custody following the incident on Wednesday last week (February 9), which police are linking to a house burglary and theft of a car in Stamford.

Peter Luke Amos Smith, 40, of Frederick Drive, Walton in Peterborough, was charged with theft of a vehicle, burglary and theft.

Joseph Thomas Upton, 48, of Murrow Lane, Murrow, was charged with burglary, theft, aggravated vehicle-taking, vehicle damage and dangerous driving.

Joseph Daniel Upton, 21, of the same address, was charged with theft of a vehicle, dangerous driving, burglary and theft.

All three attended Lincoln Magistrates Court on February 11. The two Uptons were remanded into custody until they are in Lincoln Crown Court on March 14.

Smith was granted conditional bail until his appearance at Lincoln Crown Court on the same date.
