A heroic dog saved her owner from losing her van by chasing off a would-be thief.

Billingborough courier driver Yazi Morgan-Kay (22) was delivering around Leicester when a man grabbed her arm.

But before he could pull Yazi out of the van, her two-year-old dog Nadia leapt from the passenger seat and chased the man down the road.

A short time later, Yazi found Nadia frightened in an door way but was thankfully unhurt.

Yazi said: "I am so proud of Nadia as she could have been seriously hurt but she did not think twice about getting in the way.

"It makes you think about how loyal dogs are. They don't think about their own safety and and throw themselves in front of you."

Yazi was delivering in the Haymarket area of Leicester on Thursday last week and had seen a man near her van.

As she was getting back into the van, putting her phone in a holder and close the door, when the man moved and grabbed her arm.

Yazi said: "He went to pull me out and grab the keys out of my van but before I could react Nadia was up and chased after him.

"He legged it and she just chased him the down the road.

"I was so terrified to start with as I had lost her and could not find her anywhere."

Nadia had chased the man out of Yazi's sight and she followed on foot trying to find her.

Yazi, who also trains horses, said: "I was running around looking for her and it was sheer luck that I found her.

"I wasn't going to check this alleyway as I didn't think she would be there. But I found her in a doorway."

Thankfully Nadia was not seriously hurt, although she was sore around the abdomen, and was quickly back to her normal self.

This is not the first time that Nadia has looked after Yazi's van.

She said: "I have had a couple of people try to get in the van and then saw Nadia and thought twice about it. It is quite a common occurrence for courier drivers to have their vans stolen.

"I am so grateful to have her. If he had pulled me out, I would have been in real trouble."
