Stamford and Burghley House to return to TV on new series of Netflix's The Crown
Stamford will be back on screens again as town landmarks appear in a favourite TV series.
In recent years the market town has become a filming hotspot for Netflix's The Crown.
The Netflix-original drama chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth II from the 1940s to modern times.
Season five of The Crown is set to be released a week today, on Wednesday, November 9, and an all-new cast playing the British Royal family will be featured on our screens.
The show will star Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, Dominic West as the then Prince Charles, Olivia Williams as the then Camilla Parker Bowles and Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret.
A clear top location for the Crown's producers is Burghley House, which in season four was used to play the interior of Windsor Castle.
Film crews returned to the 16th Century country house in February this year, and April and September last year.
There were reports that Imelda Staunton, who plays Queen Elizabeth in the next series, was spotted in Stamford in September last year.
At the same time, Burghley House was used to recreate the scene of the fire at Windsor Castle in 1992.
Nelsons Butchers in Broad Street was also transformed into a Chinese takeaway with Christmas fair posters in its windows while Barnardo's was decked out to look festive.
This season is the first to be released since the death of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.
Filming for The Crown was paused for a day out of respect to Her Majesty, who died on September 8.
A scene for season six was also filmed in Oundle in September.
Last year, Burghley House also received the Hollywood treatment as Warner Bros crews filmed a new DC Comics movie which has not yet been released.
Stamford has been the backdrop for plenty of TV programmes and films in the past, including Pride and Prejudice, Middlemarch, The Golden Bowl, Elizabeth: The Golden Age.
