Rutland Fairtrade Christmas Market draws hundreds of visitors to Oakham Castle

More than 650 visitors browsed for festive gift ideas at Rutland Fairtrade Christmas Market last weekend at Oakham Castle.

Coun Lucy Stephenson, Leader of Rutland County Council, opened the event which was organised by the Rutland Fairtrade Forum, a voluntary group which promotes Fairtrade across the county.

Forum chairman David Lewis thanked visitors and event supporters, including the county council and Co-op.

“After the past two years when the Fairtrade Market has been scaled back due to the covid pandemic, it was wonderful to see the castle so busy,” he said.

“By choosing to buy Fairtrade products, visitors to the market were playing a small part in helping Fairtrade producers, at a time when they need our help more than ever.”

A raffle for the charity Power for the People raised £152.
