Evergreen Care Trust's Friendship Lunch Club run at Morrisons in Stamford celebrates its first anniversary

Love was in the air at a supermarket café as a lunch club celebrated its first anniversary.

The Friendship Lunch Club, a partnership between the Evergreen Care Trust, Morrisons and Christ Church Community Transport, hosted a special Valentine’s-themed lunch at Stamford’s Morrisons yesterday (Tuesday, February 11).

Between 25 and 30 people attend the club each week for a meal.

Anne-Marie Greenhalgh, said: “The best thing about coming here is the people because it’s nice to meet everyone and a really good way to get out of the house.

“The staff are lovely and take good care of all of us.”

Jean Callun, 90, from Stamford, added: “It’s the highlight of my week because I can get out and meet other people.

“I can’t get out of my house on my own because I had a bad fall but everyone here is very nice.”

Volunteer services team leader at the Evergreen Care Trust Su Fletcher, said: “From my point of view, the lunch club is brilliant and really good fun.

“We would not be able to do without the support of Morrisons or Christ Church who provide the transport.

“It’s a really simply idea that was the brainchild of our chief executive, Louise Marsh, and it’s about community. It’s a social opportunity that deals with isolation, it’s shopping and they are getting a good meal too.”

The Friendship Lunch Club runs from 12pm for a 12.30pm lunch each Tuesday and is open to everyone.
