Wellingborough man who targeted IT firms in Rutland and Market Harborough jailed
A 29-year-old IT technician, who worked in Rutland, has been jailed after pleading guilty to two counts of computer misuse.
In January last year, Adam Georgeson of Robin Lane, Wellingborough gained access to the IT system of a secondary school in Market Harborough where he had previously been employed.
Upon doing so, he downloaded and wiped data from the system and changed the passwords of several staff members. His actions, which involved fourteen different steps, led to nobody being able to access the IT system at all.
Georgeson – then employed by an IT firm in Rutland – was arrested by Leicestershire Police.
On March 9 last year, a report was received from the IT firm stating that there had been a number of malicious and unauthorised actions against their computer systems.
In October at Leicester Crown Court, he admitted two counts of unauthorised acts with intent to impair operation of or prevent and hinder access to a computer.
He was today (Friday, February 11) sentenced to 21 months imprisonment.
Detective constable Anthony Jones, from the cyber crime team within the force’s digital hub, said: “Georgeson accessed the IT systems of both his former employers because he resented the fact he had lost both jobs.
“When he realised his actions could be traced, he went even further and his actions became even more damaging.
“I’m pleased that he has been sentenced for his actions and hope he takes time to reflect on the severity of his crimes. I also hope this case serves as an example to our communities that our dedicated team within the digital hub takes reports of crime extremely seriously and will work to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
“If you, or anyone you know, have been a victim of such a crime then please let us know. Together we can bring people to justice.”
