Stamford Model Railway Show to be held by Market Deeping Model Railway Club at Stamford Welland Academy on May 11 and 12

Model rail enthusiasts are putting the finishing touches to an event likely to attract 2,000 visitors.

Stamford Model Railway Show is the flagship exhibition for Market Deeping Model Railway Club - one of the largest such organisations in the country.

With 82 members - including 15 children - they are putting together a two-day event that will fill three halls at Stamford Welland Academy in Green Lane, as well as using classrooms as areas to ‘meet the experts’ and find out about model-making techniques.

In addition to 30 large layouts featuring moving trains, signals and even smoke and sound effects, there will be 20 trade stands selling anything the avid model-maker needs.

Model railway club members were devastated in spring 2019, when their exhibition in Stamford was vandalised before it opened to the public.

Displays that had taken many hundreds of hours to create and came from clubs across the country were ruined in the attack.

But since then - and despite covid - the Market Deeping club, which actually meets in Essendine, has gone from strength to strength.

It has put to good use donations of model trains, track and layouts, and has established a youth section to help share skills involved in the hobby, including model-making, painting and electronics.

There will be a kids’ zone for younger children at the Stamford Model Railway Show, and a ride-on miniature steam engine.

Meanwhile, there will be drinks, cakes, sweets and café catering on the site throughout the weekend.

The show is sponsored by regular supporters TC Harrison Ford dealers, Country Court care homes, and Trains4U.

Peter Davies, chairman of Market Deeping Model Railway Club, said: “We have a great show planned with lots of different layouts and gauges for people to admire and take inspiration from.

“The show takes a lot of preparation and outlay, and as a charity we are very grateful to our sponsors, who help to make it possible.”
