More than 500 see exhibition

An arts exhibition attracted more than 500 people last weekend (July 21 and 22) .

The BourneToCreate18 collaboration saw Bourne schools join forces to create an installation called Hopes and Dreams.

Led by local artist Helen Graham, a sculpture called The Industrialised Child was created and inside sits letters penned by children outlining their hopes for the future.

As well as Bourne schools, children from schools in London and Liverpool also took part, where The Industrialised Child has also been exhibited. It is set to travel to Leicester next.

It is hoped that once complete, there will be 10,000 letters inside and that The Industrialised Child can be delivered to Westminster.

The sculpture proved such a huge success over the weekend when it was on display at Bourne Town Hall that many people have requested that it eventually returns to Bourne as a permanent exhibit.

Rebecca Beavis, art director at Bourne Westfield, said everyone involved in the project had been overwhelmed at the support, not just from the schools and their pupils but the wider community.

“It’s lovely to see all the schools working together but it’s also great to see the community coming together to support the project. Everyone has been excited by the whole concept.”

This was the second annual arts exhibition and Helen and Rebecca are already looking ahead to next year’s exhibition.
