Bird Festival in Elton welcomes David Stroud and Richard Chandler
The weekend flew off to a great start as about 300 people attended a bird festival.
Bird lovers had a treat at Elton Methodist Chapel on Saturday (April 23) as a festival aimed at welcoming people into the church celebrated birds.
Visitors to the event were joined by Richard Chandler who gave a talk on wading birds and David Stroud with a talk on migration.
Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery’s curator Glenys Wass also gave a talk on extinction.
Anne Brown, organiser of the event, said: “It was a very successful and a busy day.”
The festival included stuffed birds from the Peterborough Natural History Museum, which were about 150 years old.
Visitors could also see the size of eggs from large birds including ostrich and rhea.
People who came could take part in bird-themed activities such as quizzes and games with many prize’s up for grabs. Bird books and other related items were for sale on stalls.
Anne particularly enjoyed a talk on bird-watching which informed listeners as to what important items to take.
The festival was a first for Elton Methodist Chapel, but Anne said she plans on hosting many more events.
“We want to bring people to our historic chapel, we would love to welcome new people,” Anne said.
