Plans for 93 homes in Mill Lane, Cottesmore, are turned down by Rutland County Council

Plans for 93 homes have been turned down following substantial opposition from people living near the site.

Developer William Davis Homes had submitted plans in May last year to Rutland County Council, asking to build on land off Mill Lane, Cottesmore, which is opposite St Nicholas Primary School.

The company held a public consultation in August, which attracted comments from people who live in the village, and objections were submitted to the council on several grounds.

These included that people felt the number of homes was too high and that the site had inadequate parking.

Some were also concerned about construction equipment and vehicles accessing the building site down small village lanes, and near to the school while pupils were coming and going.

Drainage and environmental effects were raised, as was the impact on the heritage of Cottesmore, especially the proximity of several listed buildings and a conservation area, and existing properties to the north of the site at Sheepdyke and Mill Lane.

Planning committee members rejected application 2022/0604/MAF unanimously.
