Friday, September 8

Towards An Abstract Edge - Peterborough Museum. Art exhibition by King’s Cliffe-based artist Crispin Heesom. Runs until October 7.

Organ recital by David Whittle, 7pm at St Peter's, Knossington, with a varied programme from Bach to lighter music. Tickets £12 (under 18 free) to include refreshments, from 01664 454584 in advance or on the door.

Deepings Heritage present a talk by Jim Irvine - “Discovering Rutland’s Roman Mosaic” - at 7.30 pm in the main hall of the Community Centre, Market Deeping. Everyone welcome. Admission £3 for non-members.

Using the online British Newspaper Archive, learn how to access over 65 million pages of local, regional and national newspapers. From Cornwall to the Shetlands, Wales and Ireland. Supported by the Stamford and District Local History Society. This is a Heritage Open Days free event.

Scarecrow trail - Wing, Rutland. Follow a trail of fairy tale-themed scarecrows around the village. Free.

Beyond the Barricade - 7.30pm, Stamford Corn Exchange. Tickets £27.50: stamfordcornexchange.co.uk or 01780 766455. Musical theatre with past principal performers from Les Misérables. Features songs from Miss Saigon, Phantom of the Opera, Hamilton, Blood Brothers, The Lion King and more.

Artisan brocante outdoor market - 10am to 4pm, Grantham House, Castlegate. Organised by Rutland friends Ruth Domanski and Shauna Donaldson, it features 30 exhibitors, a mix of French Brocante, decorative antiques, gardenalia, vintage textiles, artisan creatives and much more. Tea, coffee, wood-fired pizza, ice creams and artisan cakes. Entry will be £3 per person

Coffee morning - 10am until midday, Braceborough and Wilsthorpe Village Hall. Homemade cakes served with teas and coffee. Bric a brac stall with an excellent choice of goods, cake stall and raffle. Entry free. In aid of St Faith's Church, Wilsthorpe.

Walk and talk Stamford Medieval Walls with Chris Hunt - 11am until 1.30pm, from Stamford Cattle Market Car Park, PE9 2WB. Pre-booking essential on 07807856049. Stamford is a medieval walled town with a castle. We will walk around some of the original walls, visit the sites of the Town Gates, the surviving bastion, and part of the town’s moat. Supported by the Stamford and District Local History Society. This is a Heritage Open Days free event.

Apple and Ale festival - 10am to 5pm at the National Trust’s Lyveden near Oundle. Cider, beer and food will be on sale and tours off the site will take place. This is a Heritage Open Days free event.

Sunday, September 10

Flowers and a Little Bit of History - 2pm to 4.30pm, Glaston Church, Wing Road, Glaston. An invitation to see two small history displays: ‘Building the Railway Through Glaston in 1870s’ and ‘Owners of Glaston Hall and House’. Tea and cake. Entry and refreshments free but donations to Rutland Historic Churches Preservation Trust requested.

Redhill Lodge, Barrowden - 12 – 5.30pm. Open as part of the National Gardens Scheme. The garden has featured in several magazines and features include swimming pond, new Japanese-style stroll garden, turf viewing mound, herbaceous borders and a rose garden.Tickets £6 (free admission for children) Refreshments and spring bulb sale. A walk and talk in Ryhall Road, Stamford with Chris Hunt - 11.15am until 1.15pm, meet at Stamford Retail Park, Ryhall Road, Stamford PE9 1TX. Pre-booking essential on 07807 856049. Within a mile of McDonald’s on Ryhall Road in Stamford there is a surprising amount of history. You have the sites of two large engineering firms, the Workhouse, a Children’s Home, a link to King Edward VIII, the childhood home of a writer of young adult fiction that led to a successful TV Series, and a Second World War bomb site. Supported by the Stamford and District Local History Society. This is a Heritage Open Days free event.

Talking about mental health - 10am to midday, Stamford Day Centre, 33 Ryhall Road. A chance to share experiences of NHS mental healthcare in the Stamford area, and improve the services.
