Police probe alleged assault
A Stamford mom says she and her two children have been left traumatised following an altercation with an elderly couple while walking their dogs on Sunday.
Kim Saw and her children Kayla, eight, and Tilly, five, were walking the family’s two small dogs on extendable leads in the grounds of Burghley House when the incident took place at around 1pm.
Kim said one of the dogs had wandered in front of the couple while she was distracted.
“I called out “careful” to the woman, warning her to watch out for the lead,” she said.
“The next thing the woman started yelling at me calling me a b***** telling me that I was being irresponsible.
"The gentleman threatened to “kick the f****** dogs”.”
Alarmed by their aggressive nature, Kim said she turned away.
“The woman came after me and swung at me twice hitting me on the back with her handbag.
“I turned around to face them and the man grabbed my scarf and started pulling it, tightening it around my neck.
“I was screaming for help but no one came.”
Kim said she called the police immediately after the incident to report the matter.
“The couple had gone into the house and carried on like nothing had happened.
“We waited outside for police but by 2.30pm no one had arrived and the children and I were in a state so we left.”
She was later contacted by an officer who said they had been to Burghley House but the couple had already left.
“They told me there was not much they could do as they did not know the identity of the couple,” said Kim.
Cambridgeshire Police confirmed the matter had been reported to them and said investigations were ongoing.
A spokesman said that anyone who witnessed the incident or knows the identity of the couple - estimated to be about 70 years old - is asked to call 101 quoting reference number 35/35741/18.
A spokesman for Burghley House said they were aware there had been a “disagreement” and that police had attended.
“We understand police did investigate the matter and decided to take no further action.”
