Buy Santa a pint at pubs in the Stamford area and help raise money for Sue Ryder hospice and MindSpace
Father Christmas could be looking more cheerful than usual this year, thanks to a charity pub push.
People will be able to ‘Buy Santa a Pint’ at pubs, bars and cafes in support of the Stamford Santa Fun Run, which takes place at Burghley Park near Stamford on Sunday, December 8.
The huge event, which has already sold more than 1,300 places, raises money for three main causes: Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, MindSpace Stamford, and The Rotary Club of Stamford Burghley’s local projects.
The ‘Buy Santa a Pint’ idea was pioneered by The King’s Head in Maiden Lane last year, and was so successful that volunteer organisers from Stamford Striders have asked other pubs to do the same.
“The response from landlords and owners has been superb,” said Zoe Wade, who has been out and about asking them to participate.
“Customers can now buy Santa a pint in 18 different pubs, so it will be great if we can make sure the big guy is well and truly sozzled by the time Christmas arrives.”
Those who want to keep him on the straight and narrow can also treat him to a coffee.

Last year Sue Ryder’s local hospice received more than £12,000 from Stamford Santa Fun Run, with MindSpace receiving nearly £4,000 and the rotary club nearly £3,000.
Money is raised through entry fees and donations, as well as from event sponsors, which this year include Sonic Security, One Touch Football, Zeeco, Caterpillar, Alltech, Bogdog Running, Stamford Freemasons, CS Ellis, Stamford North, Heidelberg Materials, and Witham Hall.
As well as from members of Stamford Striders and the Rotary Club of Stamford Burghley, support on the day comes from groups that include Pride of Stamford Litter Pickers, Rutland Sailability, and St John Ambulance.
Colin Furze will also be there to start this year’s run in a madcap manner, having last year dangled upside down above the crowds using magnetic boots.
Last year’s run was a sell-out, with 1,500 people dressed as Santa taking part, so anyone interested should visit stamfordsantafunrun.com to secure a place.
Santa suits are included in the £16 entry fee, with entries for children aged 5 to 12 years costing £9 and coming with a smaller-sized suit. There is a choice of three distances for participants.
