The Carers Sitter Service, which supports people in the community who are housebound, has celebrated its 25th anniversary.

The voluntary organisation aiming is a registered charity which works closely with other caring organisations and provides a service assisting carers and their families in South Lincolnshire across Stamford, Bourne, the Deepings, and their surrounding

villages.

The service provides a home sitting service for the numerous people who are practically housebound because of the 24-hour care they are providing for dependent relatives or friends.

These include both frail elderly people and people incapacitated through chronic illness.

The service recently celebrated its 25th anniversary with a coffee morning at Wake House in Bourne. Some delicious home-made cakes were served, and a raffle was

held.

Chairman of the service Pauline Adkins spoke of the early beginnings of the service and a past chairman of Carers Sitter Service, Dr Ann Fawcett, cut the celebration cake.

Carers First and Dementia Care South Linc’s were also present to give help and advice to carers.

Marjorie Boxall-Hunt, service coordinator, said: “The coffee morning was a great success and a celebration of 25 years bringing help and care to the community.

“ It gave us a way of allowing carers living in Stamford, Bourne, the Deepings and surrounding villages to get to know or be reminded of our presence and how we can help those who care for their loved ones 24 hours a day, at the expense of their own health and wellbeing.

“Due to the continual cutbacks by mandatory services such as Adult Social Care and the NHS, the Carers Sitter Service is desperately needed and is a free to all service. We do, however, rely on donations, fundraising and grants to keep our unique service going.

“ If you have any time when you could be a volunteer sitter, be it once a week or even once a month, we could use your help!

“If you know of someone struggling to cope with caring for their loved one, please let them know about the sitting service we

provide.”
