Silver Swans celebrate first anniversary

A Bourne dance teacher is dancing in the streets in celebration after her over 55s ballet class celebrated its first anniversary.

The Silver Swans ballet class, who meet at Bourne to Dance in Cherry Holt Road and led by Denise Delieu, has steadily grown over the past year and now has 20 members.

“This group of ladies have proven that it’s never too late to start doing something that you love,” said Denise, 61.

“They are an absolute joy to teach and our lessons are always full of fun.

“They are so enthusiastic and really enjoy what they are doing.

“Silver Swans is a part of the Royal Academy of Dance’s dance for lifelong well being programme, which promotes the improvement of mental and physical health in the over 55’s.

“Research has positioned dance ahead of other physical activity in terms of the extent of it’s health benefits which include improving balance, minimising falls and increasing cognitive ability.

“Of course, many of the ladies love to come to Silver Swans for the social benefits as well, making new friends and enjoying the company of fellow dance enthusiasts.”

Denise, who was a dancer until she was 26, is a Royal Academy of Dance-trained teacher and runs Bourne to Dance with her daughter Dominique.

The Silver Swans have proved to be so successful that Denise has now set up another dance over 55s called Titanium Tappers.

The ballet group meets each Tuesday at 11am and the tap dance group at 12.15pm.
