Several major fireworks displays were held across the region at the weekend, with crowds numbering in their thousands turning up to watch the spectacular light shows.

On Saturday, a Bourne Abbey PTFA and Bourne Round Table organised event started at 4pm at the Manning Road playing field in the town.

Kevin Gutteridge, one of the organisers of the Bourne Town Fireworks show, said it had been another success with around 3,000 people turning up for the annual event.

"About 50 per cent of the proceeds go to school PTA funds and the other 50 per cent to the Bourne Round Table charitable trust," he said.

"We had around 3,000 people turn up, which is pretty much spot on with previous years."

Kevin said they had received a lot of positive feedback following the event.

"We're certainly counting it as another success and we've had a lot of good feedback from around the town," he said.

In addition to a fireworks display and bonfire, stallholders were also on hand selling a variety of foods and drinks while live music kept crowds entertained between displays.

Antony Squires, chairman of Baston Events, the organisation that puts the Baston Fireworks show together, said the event held on Sunday had also been a success.

Gates to the Brudenell playing fields in Baston opened at 3pm and with two fireworks shows being held - one at 5.30pm for children and a second, the main event, at 7.30pm.

"The children's show is a low level, not quite as loud event," said Antony.

"This was the 11th year we have held the Baston Fireworks show and we limited ticket sales to 3,000 people which is about what we got.

"Overall we got some fantastic feedback and are really pleased with how it went."

Antony said the show had been themed on the 100 year anniversary of the end of the First World War.

"We had a moments silence and the last post was also played before the show started," he said.

Profit made from the event goes into a central fund and Baston Events, which also organises the Baston Car and Bike Show, invites requests for donations to be made.

The skies above Stamford also came alive on Saturday night thanks to the Stamford and District Kiwanis Fireworks Bonanza.

The event was held at the Stamford Welland Academy with gates opening at 5pm.

In Oakham, the Rutland Lions organised fireworks display was held at the Oakham Rugby Club.

The children's display started at 7pm and the main display at 7.45pm.

In Market Deeping, the First Market Deeping Guides display took place at Greenlands.
