Stamford Library has been forced to order some new children's books after the Summer Reading Challenge proved a huge success.

Library manager Lea Rickard said 430 children had signed up to the challenge, which this year has been Beano themed and rewards pre-sch0ol and primary school aged children for reading six books during the Summer holidays.

The number who have signed up matches the library's previous record.

Lea said: "So many children have been taking out books that our shelves were looking empty – the collections team have come to the rescue and have ordered lots and lots of gorgeous new books for us."
