Deepings Literary Festival team hosts StoryFest for children




Children enjoyed a “smorgasbord of stories” at an event hosted by the Deepings Literary Festival team.

A wide range of authors visited the Deepings Community Library during the weekend to share their work with young people.

Among the guests were Deeping St James author Julia Jarman, who wrote the Big Red Bus, and Peterborough poet Toby Wood. Cartoon characters Belle, Elsa and Spiderman also paid a visit.

Organiser Judy Stevens said: “Our StoryFest event went brilliantly well. We’ve built on the event from last year and had about 150 children come along during the weekend. They loved it.”

The Deepings Literary Festival committee had staged a short story competition and the winners were announced on Sunday. The winner was Rebecca Board who wrote a story called Atlantis, and runners up were Rose Petal Needham and Priya Trivedi. They were chosen by Stamford children’s author Hannah Gold, who wrote The Last Bear and The Lost Whale.

The event was funded by thr South Kesteven District Council community fund, Deeping St James United Charities, Deeping Lions and The Deepings Rotary Club. An appearance by Mickey and Minnie Mouse was arranged by the Round Table.
