Letter: What has happened to Stamford Welland Arts Society banner?

The Welland Valley Arts Society puts on two major exhibitions at the Arts Centre Stamford each year: one in spring and one in autumn.

To publicise these exhibitions we put coloured banners up around the town, a large one on the railings by The Meadows and smaller ones on railings at the edges of roads leading into Stamford.

For the last three exhibitions at least, we have put a banner on the railings leading from Empingham Road to the Southbound A1 which can be easily seen by traffic entering Stamford. See photo of railings and of the banner.

However, during the recent exhibition, someone has removed our banner from the railings and not notified us. These are really nice and expensive banners and we would like to get it back.

By coincidence this year our banner was right next to the large Adele Tribute photo advertising the Corn Exchange Concert on October 7. Apparently the Corn Exchange was phoned by a member of Highways England, who manage the slip roads, saying the banner should not be there so the Adele banner was taken down. We have been unable to ascertain who took the Adele photo down and whether they also removed our banner.

We would like to solve this mystery and would ask anyone who saw our banner being removed or who has other relevant information to please contact us on 01780765480.
