South Lincs and Border League cricket round-up




A superb seven-wicket haul from Hugo Bell helped keep Burghley Park's title bid on track in the South Lincs and Border League on Satuday.

Bell took a brilliant 7-23 from 7.2 overs as Billingborough were bowled out for 77 in the Championship clash.

Burghley needed less than 15 overs to reach their target as James Laud led the victory charge with an unbeaten 60 which featured nine fours and two sixes.

With just six matches of the season remaining, Burghley have a 13-point over second-placed Moulton Harrox at the top of the table.

A four-wicket haul from Henry Brewster proved in vain for Bourne 2nds as they lost by 54 runs at Skegness.

Brewster finished with 4-35 as Skegness were bowled out for 199 but Bourne were dismissed for 145 in reply despite Tom Patchett hitting 34.

Muhammad Wajid was in terrific form for Market Deeping 2nds in their 173-run win over Spalding 2nds in Division One.

Wajid whacked 141 while Evan Donaldson was 68 not out at the close after Nick Andrews had made 46 as Deeping posted 290-6 from their 45 overs.

Thomas Decamps took 4-24 for Spalding who were dismissed for 117 in reply as Lee Peacock picked up 3-5 from a three-over stint.

Dan Hughes fell one run short of a century as Ketton Sports maintained their push for promotion in Division One.

Hughes was caught out on 99 as the Rutland side triumphed by two runs in a close contest with Long Sutton 2nds.

Sports had closed their 45 overs on 233-6 after batting first with Hughes' fine innings being backed up by Adam Renton and Sam Halsall who scored 45 and 43 not out respectively.

Tim Norris led the Long Sutton reply with 92 while Jack Baker was unbeaten on 54 as their run chase fell just short.

Hughes and Halsall both took two wickets for Ketton who remain in second spot, three points behind table-topping Ancaster with a game in hand.

Burghley 2nds are setting the pace in Division Two as they completed a club double over Billingborough with a six-wicket win.

Matt Williams took 4-1 from a fantastic 4.2 over stint as Billingborough were bowled out for 108 with Bill Sadler their top scorer with 47.

Andy Briault got the Burghley reply off to a strong start by making 31 as they took less than 20 overs to secure the win despite Ollie Sneath taking 3-24 for Billingborough.

Baston went down by 59 runs against bottom of the table Belton Park who were celebrating their first victory of the season.

Ben Hudson had taken 3-6 from four overs as Belton Park were bowled out for 131 but Baston could only manage 72 in reply.

Ketton Sports 2nds are pushing for promotion from Division Three after a 42-run home win over Freiston at Pit Lane.

Opener Tyler Sculthorpe carried his bat for an unbeaten 84 while Raavi Patel plundered a quick-fire 52 as Sports made 207-7 from their 45 overs.

Mat Bird then took 5-36 from nine overs as Freiston were bowled for 162 to move Sports above their defeated visitors into second spot.

Uffington also aided Ketton's cause as they defeated fourth-placed Royal Boston 2nds by four wickets.

The villagers had bowled out their visitors for 95 and the passed the target inside 18 overs.

Finn Bray took an impressive 4-15 from nine overs while Theo Saralis claimed 3-24 off his seven over stint. Joe Genever led the Uffington reply with 34.
