Stamford Bels beat Netherton United in the Peterborough League Premier Division

A dominant display helped Stamford Bels maintain their 100 percent start to the Peterborough League season on Saturday.

Bels recorded their 11th successive victory in Division One after a five-goal away success at Netherton United.

Dave Atkinson, Kieran Duffy-Weekes, Kieran Evans, Jordan Neil and Ewan Fieldhouse were on target for Bels who are now seven points clear at the top of the table.

Player-boss Lewis Morley said: "We were fantastic over the whole pitch.

"The back four of Jacob Smith, Callum Willimont, Fin Sewell and Kieran Evans, along with Joe Morley when he came on, were strong against Kyial West who was a handful in attack for Netherton.

"Keenan Murphy commanded his area unbelievably well. He dealt with every cross and strike ensuring he kept his clean sheet.

"The midfield of Scott Toomey, Atkinson and Duffy-Weekes ran the show. Their work-rate mixed with their quality shone through.

"They didn't allow Netherton to pick up a first or second ball and dominated from start to finish.

"The front three of Dan Gargan, Louie Roberts and Jordan Neil pressed very hard and didn't let Netherton get out. All three created numerous chances which was great to see."

Netherton had started the brighter of the two teams but Bels stood strong and their Peterborough hosts couldn't get through.

Roberts had Bels' first big chance but was denied by a fine save from the home goalkeeper before the visitors broke the deadlock.

Some great one-touch football from Roberts and Neil saw the former brought down on edge of the area and Neil stepped up to make it 1-0 with a great free kick.

The lead was then doubled when Evans scored direct from a corner with Gargan having a chance to make it three before the break only to fire his shot wide.

A superb last-ditch tackle from Roberts then denied Netherton a way back into the contest early in the second half before Bels increased their lead.

Smart play from Duffy-Weekes saw him beat two defenders before being brought down by a bad challenge which was punished as Atkinson stepped up to score from the penalty spot.

A fourth goal then followed as Duffy-Weekes and Gargan combined well down the left with the former whipping a ball into a dangerous area where it was deflected into the net by a Netherton defender.

The win was rounded off when Neil played in Fieldhouse who touched, turned and fired into the top left of the Netherton net.

Bels could have added more goals to their tally but Neil, Roberts and Gargan all had efforts superbly saved by the home goalkeeper.

They are back in action at Welland Academy on Saturday when they welcome Whittlesey Athletic Development.
