Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket League round-up





A six-wicket haul from Mat Bird helped Ketton Sports to a 45-run away win at Shree Sanatan 2nds in Division Four East of the Leicestershire League on Saturday.

Sports had been bowled out for 168 after batting first with Daniel Hughes hitting 61 while Jacob Miller made 25.

Bird then took 6-20 from 8.2 overs as their hosts were bowled out for 123 in reply.

Oakham 2nds were also victorious on their travels as they won by six wickets at Bitteswell.

Three wickets from Ben Southern and Alex Green's brace of 2-10 from seven overs helped bowl out Bitteswell for 171.

Charles Gill led the Oakham reply with 52 while Raiffe Headley hit 44 as the visitors wrapped up the win inside 29 overs.

Oakham's first team remain on course for a top five finish in the Premier Division despite a home defeat on Saturday.

They were beaten by eight wickets against Leicester Ivanhoe at the Lime Kilns, but will still secure fifth spot in the table if they avoid defeat at sixth-placed Barrow Town in their final game this weekend.

They were bowled out for 146 with Charlie Hurley (22), Seb Smith (20) and Joe Johnson (20) their top scorers.

Johnson and Harry Tyler both made a breakthrough in the Ivanhoe reply, but the visitors cruised home inside 24 overs.

Uppingham Town ended a three-match losing streak in Division One with a seven-wicket away win at Leicester Ivanhoe 2nds.

Scott Green took 3-25 and Mark Cox claimed 2-34 as their hosts were bowled out for 222 after electing to bat first.

A 117-run opening stand between Jamie Dumford (66no) and Cox (67) got the Town reply off to fine start before James Cross (24) and Shalif Nasirhusen (29) helped steer Uppingham to victory.

Market Overton will finish in the bottom two of Division Five East after losing by 16 runs in a high-scoring home clash with Great Glen.

The visitors made 305-7 from their 40 overs after batting first with Marko finishing on 289-8 in reply.

Brian Makwana took 2-40 and then carried his bat for a magnificent 157 not out in Marko’s reply.

Uppingham 2nds were beaten by seven wickets in their penultimate match of the Division Six East campaign against Leicester Caribbean.

Ickey Singh struck 62 and Lee Middleton was unbeaten on 45 as Town totalled 187-4 from their 40 overs after batting first.

Middleton then took 2-22 but their visitors needed less than 29 overs to secure the win as opener Ismail Wadee hit 88 not out.

Heavy rain wrecked havoc with Sunday's Rutland League programme with a number of matches being abandoned.

Division One champions Barnack saw their match at Peterborough washed out with their hosts on 202-2.

Ufford Park had made 168-9 in their Division Two match with Werrington 2nds when rain stopped play.

Uffington secured a quick-fire 10-wicket win at Whittlesey to move 18 points clear of the bottom two with just one match remaining.

Matt Tyers took 4-21 while Jonny White claimed 3-1 from his two overs as Whittlesey were bowled out for 79.

Uffington needed just 10.1 overs to pass their target before the heavens opened as White was 42 not out and Felix Cunningham unbeaten on 25 at the close.

Uffington 2nds suffered a narrow six-run defeat in Division Three against East Carlton who had been bowled out for 175.

Harry Carter claimed 5-39 for Uffington who were dismissed for 169 in reply despite James Saralis scoring 81.

Stamford were beaten by four wickets against City 2nds in a rain-affected clash at Uffington Road.

Town made 230-3 after batting first with Liam Dave hitting a century and Lewis Spice scoring 61.

City were set a rain-revised target of 165 from 31 overs which they passed with 16 balls to spare despite Alex Birch taking 3-12 from seven overs.

Bourne lost by seven runs against Kimbolton at the Abbey Lawn despite making 242.
